Searching for Yard Sales
You do not need an account to search for yard sales. At some future time, there will be some special features for which an account will be necessary.
To search for a yard sale, simply enter the four required criteria (in the two sections marked "required".
- The zip code of interest,
- The distance from that zip code you are willing to travel,
- The earliest date of interest, and
- The number of days from that date that you want to include.
You can search for much more specific types of items by selecting all the categories of items in which you are interested. You will get a list of yard sales that contain items from any of the categories on which you searched.
If you select the link for maps of all the sales from your search, a new window will pop up which can be printed.
Please, respect any requests of the yard sale holder, such as not showing up before the starting time if the ad states "No early birds".
Placing and Managing Your Yard Sale Ad
To place an ad, you must first log in to your account. If you do not yet have an account, create one by filling out the registration form.
An ad has one of three listing statuses. The listing status determines what people searching for yard sales will see.
- A DRAFT ad is not visible to the public and allows you to create an ad and add information numerous times as you go through your sale items before anyone sees the ad.
- A LIVE ad is visible to the public. Once LIVE, an ad cannot be turned back into a DRAFT, and the dates cannot be changed. This means that it won't disappear on someone who has found it in a search before.
- A CANCELLED ad is visible to the public, but labelled as “CANCELLED”. Please, remember to change the status to CANCELLED, if you cancel your yard sale. This will keep people from showing up, looking for the yard sale. A CANCELLED yard sale cannot be made LIVE.
You can list a sale at a different address, but you will need to add that address under your account by going to Account.
You must select or enter a starting date and ending date. If it is a one day sale, enter the same date for both the starting and ending dates. If you enter the date directly instead of using the calendar selector, you must enter the date as DD-MM-YYYY. For instance enter "15-03-2006" for March 15th, 2006.
You must enter the start time and end time for the sale.
The rest of the options are not required. However, the more description you give your yard sale, the more likely you will have people attend who will want to buy those items. Only mark categories for which you have actual items for sale. The more accurate listings are the more use the site is to buyers and sellers. If misleading ads are placed, buyers will lose faith in this service and it won't be of use to sellers. And if buyers have faith in the accuracy of the ads, they may be willing to drive further to attend a yard sale. This serves the seller by enlarging the potential area from which buyers will attend your yard sale for items you actually have to sell.
Please, note that marking of yard sale categories for which you do not have actual items for sale constitutes fraudulent use of this service and will result in your expulsion from this service. See the Terms of Use for further details.
Please, remember to change the status to CANCELLED, if you cancel your yard sale.

Your Account
To create a yard sale listing you must have an account on Yard Sale Sleuth. You do not need an account to search for yard sales. If you already have an account, just log in and create your ad. If you do not yet have an account, create one, and you can get started listing yard sales immediately.
All requested information is required to create an account.
You must enter a password in twice.
When you are logged in, you will see a listing of all your current and future ads. If you do not have any current or future ads, then nothing will be listed.
You can go to the page where you can change your core account information. You can also manage your physical addresses, with one always being the primary one for the account.
On the Account Information page, you must enter your current password for any changes to be saves. This is to ensure that your key information cannot be changed while you are away from the computer, or if you forget to log off.
